The Economic Cost of IPR Infringement in the Smartphone Sector. The report was written by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The report presents the findings of studies to determine the economic cost of IPR infringement in the smartphone sector, as well as the non-economic impacts of counterfeit smartphones. The studies estimate that 184 million smartphones or around 45 million euros were lost by legitimate industry in 2015, due to the presence of counterfeit smartphones in the marketplace.
